The AM Molokini excursion is our most popular snorkel adventure to the best underwater destination in Hawaii!
Molokini features flourishing marine life in exceptionally clear water with visibility in excess of 150 feet. Turtle Town is bordered by a vibrant coral reef on lava formations, which is very attractive to sea turtles. This 5-hour trip is always a pleasure!
Molokini Crater is a partially submerged volcanic crater that features some of the clearest water for snorkeling anywhere in the world. The islet’s concave shape protects divers from waves and strong currents. You will be fascinated by 250 diverse species in a tropical sanctuary that are used to and comfortable with swimmers, which yields ample opportunity to capture some great underwater photos.
Snorkeling Molokini aboard the Pride of Maui, in the care of our expert Captains and crew, means you can relax. You will be equipped with comfortable, sanitized, professional snorkel gear, flotation devices, viewport boogie boards and optical masks to fully explore the underwater sanctuary. If you are feeling even more adventurous, take your snorkel experience to the next level by participating in SNUBA diving.
With SNUBA diving, you’ll enjoy the unique experience of weightlessness while swimming with amazingly beautiful marine life in a safe, controlled environment, about 15 feet below the surface, under the watchful care of our expert Maui SNUBA instructors.
The air tank, which would be on your back if you were scuba diving, is actually attached to a raft on the surface above you, with a long hose and breathing apparatus. All you have to do is relax and breathe.
SNUBA diving requires NO PRIOR EXPERIENCE or special talents at all. You just have to be at least 8 years of age, in average health and be prepared to experience the adventure of a lifetime.
While Molokini continues to be home to one of the most beautiful and diverse reefs in the world, it's still susceptible to damage by the negative effects of thousands of tons of sunscreen per year. In keeping Molokini beautiful, it is our duty to the reef and it’s many inhabitants to help protect it by using reef-safe sunscreen.
Make sure that any sunscreen that you purchase is free from these harmful chemicals: Benzophenones (Oxybenzone (BP-3), Benzophenon (BP-2) and Octinoxate; Parabens (Butylparaben, Methylparaben and Propylparaben; Cinnamates (Octyl methoxycinnamate and Cinoxate).
Turtle Reef (aka Olowalu) is bordered by a coral reef and underwater lava formations and is animated by a wealth of colorful fishes, sea stars and many other aquatic delights. As you splash into an ocean of fun at Turtle Reef, you will be welcomed by one of Maui’s most gentle residents, the Hawaiian Green Sea Turtles.

The underwater life at Molokini is truly beautiful and abundant. One of the most prevalent and awe-inspiring sightings you’ll experience will be that of the Hawaiian Green Sea Turtle. These gentle, majestic creatures are known to be eager to interact so they may even swim up close to you. It is important to swim calmly, should that happen, and respect the green sea turtles in their natural environment as they are a protected species and it is unlawful to touch, chase, ride or harass them in any way.
You’ll also be transfixed by the almost 250 different species of fish, many endemic to Molokini. Some common ones you’ll see are the Four-Spot Butterflyfish, Potter’s Angelfish, Yellow-Tail Wrasse, Ornate Wrasse, Banner Fish, Moorish Idol, Bluefin Trevally, Rainbow Cleaner Wrasse, Picasso Triggerfish, Black Triggerfish, White-Spotted Damsel, Hogfish (which is a part of the Wrasse family) and the incredible Flying Fish!
Every winter we are honored with the presence of the great North Pacific Humpback Whales which arrive in large numbers. Sightings of these magnificent animals along the route to Molokini are plentiful. Spinner Dolphins are also common in the Hawaiian oceans. They frolic and skip across the ocean surface, seemingly eager to perform a happy dance for onlookers.
The fascinating sightings do not stop there as you are also very likely to see Pincushion Sea Stars with their vibrant red and gold coloring, Spotted Moray eels (which are usually seen swimming through coral reef crevices), octopus, Manta rays, Orange Tube Corals, Feather Duster worms, Spanish dancers (also called Nudies), Slate-pencil sea urchins, Ghost crabs, Portuguese Man-O-War, Hawaiian monk seals and Sea cucumbers, which get their name from their cucumber-like shape.
We offer SCUBA for certified divers and cater to small groups of 7 divers MAXIMUM, ensuring a very personalized Maui SCUBA experience. Our Molokini snorkel and SCUBA tour is an opportunity for families and groups to share in the excitement of the day, on the same boat, at the same time.
The divers get to blow some bubbles while the snorkelers enjoy the reef too! If you are a certified scuba diver, but have gotten rusty, this is a great opportunity to refresh your skills in a small group of divers at one or both of the two sites we visit, Molokini Crater and Turtle Reef (aka Olowalu). Coral Gardens is a beautiful alternative should conditions require, though Mother Nature agrees with our trips 90% of the time.
