We recommend arriving at least 30 minutes before your scheduled check-in time. This gives you enough time to park, walk to the harbor, and complete check-in without feeling rushed.
Arriving early helps your day start smoothly and ensures you’re ready to board on time.
Note: Please ensure you pay for parking either at a kiosk or via QR codes, which are easily accessible. If you don’t pay for parking, you will get towed by the harbor tow companies.
Understanding Check-In vs. Departure Time #
Your tour has two different times that matter:
- Check-in time: When you need to be at the harbor and checked in
- Departure time: When the vessel leaves the dock
Check-in always closes before departure. Arriving at or after departure time may result in missing the tour.
Your confirmation email lists your specific check-in time, and that is the time you should plan around.
Why Arriving Early Matters #
Arriving early allows time for:
- Finding parking
- Walking from the parking area to the dock
- Checking in without rushing
- Asking last-minute questions
Māʻalaea Harbor can be busy during peak tour times, especially in the morning, so building in a buffer is important.
Recommended Arrival Window #
A good rule of thumb is to arrive:
- 30–45 minutes before check-in, especially if it’s your first visit
- A bit earlier during busy seasons or holidays
This extra time helps reduce stress and keeps the experience relaxed from the start.
What Happens If I Arrive Late? #
If you arrive after check-in has closed:
- Boarding may no longer be available
- The tour may depart without you
- Late arrivals may be considered a no-show
If you think you’re running late, contact the office as soon as possible. While accommodations aren’t guaranteed, early communication is always helpful.
After You Check In #
Once you’ve checked in:
- Crew members will guide you to the boarding area
- You’ll receive any necessary instructions before departure
- Boarding typically begins shortly before the scheduled departure time
From there, the crew handles the rest — your main job is to relax and enjoy the experience.
Planning for a Smooth Morning #
To make arrival easier:
- Set your navigation destination in advance
- Allow extra drive time for traffic
- Factor in parking and walking time
- Double-check your confirmation email the day before
A calm arrival sets the tone for the entire tour.
