All Organic Food Sources on Maui

Those who know can’t help but rave about Choice Health Bar. It could be because you can taste the freshness in their food or because of how great you feel after you eat it. One of our favorite items is the “Healthy Plate Lunch.” It’s easy to see why this is such a popular choice. It includes healthy portions of their fresh salad, vegan soup of the day, a scoop of coconut garlic quinoa, and the daily dessert! One thing is for sure: You won’t leave here hungry!

Choice Health Bar makes amazing acai bowls and smoothies that are packed full of fresh local fruits and tasty fresh-pressed juices. They also offer elixirs and shots made with locally sourced noni juice, wheat grass, and even a probiotic shot. Choice Health Bar is one of the best all-organic food sources on Maui, hands down.

They also have a salad bar as well as a hot bar with prepared food, daily soups, and chili. Farmer’s Market has an abundance of samples of homemade bread, guacamole, pineapple salsa, and spreads throughout the store. Their café serves acai bowls, smoothies, juices and kombucha.

When shopping for organic foods at Foodland, main targets of interest are produce, meats, seafood, baked, dry goods, and beverages.

In the produce section, you can find locally grown banana, papaya, pineapple, avocado, salad greens, fresh herbs, and more seasonally available local produce.

In the meats and seafood sections, keep your eyes peeled for Maui Cattle Company’s beef products, fresh caught (red tuna), and Mahi Mahi (dorado). Foodland is also one of the best places in Hawaii to buy fresh poke. Make sure to check out the poke bar to order a la carte poke by weight or poke bowls served with rice.

Don’t forget to visit the fresh juice, beer coolers, and liquor aisles. This is where you can find fresh-squeezed tropical drinks, local Maui craft beers, and organic alcohol choices like Maui’s Ocean Vodka.

The Kapalua location has farm-to-table island cuisine in unique concoctions. An added perk is the oceanfront dining overlooking Kapalua Bay. Their menu lists the source of most of its ingredients and includes entrees with Kula strawberries, Waipoli Farms watercress, and naturally-raised lamb.

Every ingredient on the menu is carefully selected. Their burgers are made with Maui Cattle Company beef, and the turkey burgers use free-range natural turkey. They also serve dishes with renewable fish species, flatbread with toppings like organic spinach and organic basil, and salads using organic kale, organic mixed greens, and organic baby romaine. Even the salad dressing is made from local, organic ginger.

Monkeypod is also known for its daily live music, abundant happy hour menu and 36 draft beers.

One of the best things about Safeway is that they carry a lot of organic food options. On Maui, they stock the Safeway organic food products like ‘O Organics’ and ‘Open Nature.’ They also carry a lot of Hawaii grown organic vegetables, fruits, and meats.

Maui’s Safeway stores partner with many local Maui farms like Maui Gold, Maui Cattle Company, Evonuk Farms, Kula Country Farms, and more. In their produce section, shoppers can find over 100 locally grown items like salad greens, bananas, strawberries, avocado, Kula onions, and assorted herbs.

Fork and Salad is the perfect spot to pick up some quick healthy organic foods on Maui. The best part is, not only is the farm-to-table cuisine convenient and affordable, it’s delicious! Patrons can order from their list of Signature Salads that include old-time favorites like Caesar, Greek and Cobb salads. Or, you can build your own salad in a three-step process. First, you choose your base, which is from a list of amazing greens. Step 2, you choose 5 ingredients from a list of veggies, fruits, nuts and seeds, plus one of their homemade dressings. Step 3 is optional, and this is when you can add meat from a list of proteins that include fresh local fish. Last, but not least, consider adding some finishing extras like flaxseed and nutritional yeast. They also have a selection of tasty soups and sandwiches that are incredibly fresh and delicious*

At Fork & Salad, guests will also find some of our favorite made on Maui products including locally made kombucha on tap, Pono Pies (an amazing vegan and gluten-free cheesecake that is made from locally sourced ulu aka breadfruit). Next time you want to pick up a quick and delicious farm-to-table meal, stop by Fork & Salad. The hardest part will be deciding which delicious salad or sandwich to try first!

Hawaiian Moons also has a cold salad bar and hot food bar with vegan, vegetarian, and meat options. The hot bar uses only natural and free-range turkey and chicken, organic tofu, free-range eggs and grass-fed Maui cattle beef. All of their utensils and packaging are compostable.

Look for red-tag items like house-made hummus at reduced prices and sale items near the entrance.

They specialize in having something for everyone and have a wide variety of gluten-free, raw, and vegan options too. They are conveniently located in Upcountry Maui, with both dine-in, take-out, and grab and go food available.

Both counter and table seating is available, and the sushi is made to order right in front of the customer.

The menu at Cafe des Amis is inspired by a fusion of foods from France, the Mediterranean, and India. Throughout their menu, guests enjoy creative dishes that combine the flavors of many cultures. Whenever possible, menu ingredients are sourced from local organic farms on Maui.

Cafe des Amis is open for Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner 7-days a week. Favorite menu items include sweet and savory crepes, Mediterranean platters, Indian curries, and wraps. Their organic Kale Salads are yummy, and we absolutely love their freshly prepared mango chutney and cucumber raita.

This Paia eatery offers both indoor and outdoor seating, and live music throughout the week. It’s a great place to go for a meal with friends, happy hour, or a casual date night.

Cafe des Amis also offers delicious coffee drinks, a mouthwatering Lilikoi (passionfruit) Margarita, and an impressive (yet, small) wine list.

Flatbread’s dough is made from organic wheat, with available toppings including nitrate-free sausage, pepperoni, chicken, and pork, sulfate-free sun dried tomatoes, organic Maui rosemary and basil, fresh Haiku organic tomatoes, and more. They also serve organic juices and milks. Delicious!

They have a small selection of organic produce, packaged foods, and organic beauty products. It’s the perfect place to get lunch for a day trip or pick up that one item you forgot. Some of the sale items are actually cheaper than big stores like Whole Foods.

During the summer months, bees collect nectar from the Wilelaiki trees that grow on the leeward side of Mt. Haleakala. Summer honey is light in color and the flavor has a simple floral note. During the winter, the bees collect nectar from Mt. Haleakala’s Eucalyptus, Silky Oak, Avocado, and Ohia Lehua trees. The winter honey is darker in color, and the flavor is more complex with caramel and butterscotch notes.

Besides honey, Maui Bees ethically manufactures a wide variety of products. Items include organic baked goods, packaged goods, sauces, jams, teas, coffee, and more.

Maui Bees products can be purchased through their website and at a variety of organic grocery stores in Hawaii. If you’re on Maui, you can find Maui Bees products at Mana Foods in Paia. For visitors who would like to visit the Maui Bees farm facility, they offer weekly beekeeper workshops and agricultural farm tours.

Mana foods is known for their belief in working for Maui’s sustainability. They use organic and locally sourced ingredients as much as they possibly can. You can really taste the difference! One of our favorites is the Paia Sunrise breakfast bowl. It’s full of tropical flavors, made with granola, local mango, banana, papaya, lilikoi and coconut flakes. With 6 kombucha flavors on tap, the only problem is deciding which one to try first. Feeling under the weather, a supah shot, full of Hawaiian chili pepper and lilikoi or a Kapo shot made with turmeric and black pepper, are sure to boost the immune system.

No trip to Paia is complete without a visit to Maka by Mana. They have some of Maui’s best vegan and gluten free food, and it is sure to satisfy everyone’s organic food needs on Maui.

They have rows of packaged products, a large frozen food selection, a huge selection of organic and local produce, freshly made bread and pies, homeopathic remedies, essential oils, beauty products, books and home décor.

Their salad bar and hot food bar provide food by the pound and grab and go options like sandwiches, burritos, and wraps. Mana Foods is a great place to stock up on snacks and supplies before heading out to Hana.

The Veg Out menu is large, and has items inspired by Italian, Greek, American, Mexican, Chinese, Thai, and Indian foods. Selections include Starters & Sides, Salads, Pizza, Burritos, Fajitas, Enchiladas, Pad Thai Noodles, Curries, Middle Eastern Plates, Pasta, Lasagna, Falafel Wraps, Boca Burgers, and more.

Veg Out offers indoor seating, but it’s also very popular for take-out meals. Although not everything is organic on their menu, everything is locally-sourced and organic when possible.

Favorite menu items at Veg Out include the Breaded Tofu, Greek Salad, Vegan Pizza, the Baked Lasagna, Beyond Steak Sandwich, and the Falafel Wrap.

Veg Out also has a food truck! Follow them on social media to see their food truck locations, or book them for a birthday or private party on the Valley Isle.

If you’d like to visit Evonuk Farms, you can call Walter Evonuk to schedule a tour. Keep in mind, they do not offer a regularly scheduled tour, so all visits must be scheduled in advance. In addition, they also do not have a farm stand or shop. However, if you take a tour of the farm, you’ll have the opportunity to taste some of the Maui herbs and plants that they are currently growing.

To make sure that they provide their customers with the freshest quality produce as possible, they deliver their culinary herbs within 12 to 24 hours of harvesting. On Maui, you can find their culinary herbs at Mana Foods in Paia, Whole Foods and Down to Earth in Kahului, Times Supermarket in Kihei, and various Foodland Stores and Longs Drugs Stores throughout the island. Visitors will also find their herbs on Oahu, Kauai and the Big Island.

Their produce is available by market and CSA. Their market produce sells every Saturday from 8-12 at 1300 Lower Kula Road, or until they sell out. They sell lettuce, kale, arugula, cucumber, papaya, banana, lilikoi spread, fresh pressed sugar cane juice, farm-made sauerkraut, kimchi and coffee.

Kupa’a also offers a Community Shared Agriculture (CSA) box. Members pay a flat fee per month to get a weekly box of 12-14 diverse plants and veggies from the farm.

Ocean Vodka can be purchased at the farm in Kula, and in certain grocery stores on Maui and beyond. The farm offers daily tours with vodka samples. They have a martini garden with organic fruits like pineapple and passionfruit, and Kula lavender for mixing. A visit to Maui’s Ocean Vodka Distillery is sure to be a wonderful time. The farm offers epic island views and the distilling process is so interesting to watch and learn about. Now they have a sweet little cafe, inviting you to relax and stay a while!

Guests are encouraged to bring their own wine and enjoy the meal in an outside patio with stunning views of both North and South Maui. Dessert and homegrown and roasted coffee is also provided. O’o also does “Seed to Cup” coffee tours that include a meal of garden frittata, made with eggs and veggies from the farm.

They also make vegan pastries and have a selection of gluten-free items. The store has an abundant menu of smoothies with organic papaya and other local fruits like banana and pineapple in addition to add-ons like acai, protein, and superfood mix.

Surfing Goat does daily tours for $12 with cheese samples. Their cheese is so popular that it is sold in nearly every grocery store on Maui and used as an ingredient in countless dishes at dozens of Maui restaurants.

Rain or shine, the Upcountry Farmers Market takes place every Saturday from 7am-11am.

Located near the Long’s Drug Store parking lot in Lower Kula, this market has been operating for over 40 years. Over 50 vendors sell organic, sustainably farmed, and locally produced goods.

Although not everything is organic, there are many organic and free-range items to be found. Here is where you shop on Maui for organic produce, plants and fresh-cut flowers, free-range Maui meats, freshly caught seafood, locally made cheeses, Maui souvenirs, and so much more.

The Wednesday Market has a special, intimate charm to it. It’s very small, and you’re not likely to find everything you need there. What you will find are local farmers eager to talk to you about their farming methods and passionate about what they grow.

It’s also a great place to find hand-made jewelry and organic starter plants.

Near Waipuna Chapel in Lower Kula (Kula Hwy and Omaopio Rd intersection)

At this Central Maui hot spot, guests can stock up on groceries, beauty products, health and wellness items, and household goods. It’s a favorite spot for a quick and nutritious lunch, and the staff is knowledgeable and friendly.

At the Alive & Well cafe, Broth, foodies can order a variety of items like fresh salads, soups, wraps, sandwiches, juices, smoothies, hot items, and desserts. They also have a cold fridge with pre-prepared to-go items. Here’s a perfect place to stop in Kahului before venturing out on Maui activities, or traveling to and from OGG Airport.

Costco sells organic products like fresh produce, pre-mixed salad packs, juices, frozen foods, pasta, hummus, dips, bread, eggs, almond milk, meats and more at prices that are often comparable to the price of the non-bulk item in a regular grocery store.

Down to Earth’s hot and cold food bar has variety of items including salads, Indian food, pizza, quinoa, and breaded tofu with a sign above it listing all of the items that are organic on a given day.

They also sell yoga products, incense, bulk soaps, essential oils, cleaning supplies, homeopathic remedies and organic beauty products.

Kumu Farms grows organic veggies like eggplant, carrots, cabbage, kale, chard, peppers, tomatoes, beets, fennel, radishes, turnips, arugula, herbs and green beans. Their organic fruits include mangos, strawberry sunrise papayas, apple bananas and pineapple.

The giant, chain grocer has organic everything- bulk items, produce, hot bar, salad bar, café, cleaning products, home décor, homeopathic remedies, supplements, beauty products, beer and wine, and fresh seafood.
Whole Foods Maui also partners with local farmers to bring local, organic produce from small farms to consumers.

Ono has a roadside market everyday from 10-6 selling organic produce, jams and jellies, seasoning, and coffee. They also do daily tasting tours for $35, including samples of at least 12 tropical fruits, chocolate and homegrown Arabica coffee.

Featured dishes here include the Crab Cake Salad, Killer Breakfast Burrito, Mochi Fries, and Mermaid Dream Cream, just to name a few. You must try the macro bowl with homemade seitan. You’ve NEVER had seitan quite this tender and juicy! Every flavor and every bite just has its own identity and pairs beautifully with the others. From the Mung bean noodles with Ume tahini sauce, to the steamed kale, flavored tofu, mushrooms, daikon, and seitan, all are outstanding choices from their expansive menu.

Sourcing local and organic ingredients is the main goal of PBC. They do their best to utilize the abundance that Maui has to offer. PBC collaborates with farmers across Maui to gather the freshest seasonal ingredients to grind, blend, squeeze, and juice into their products. From the ginger turmeric kombucha to the dragon fruit water kefir, the taste of the island flows through every one of their products.

There are so many great choices for food here. Not only do they have the best local Coconuts, but also fruit, Poke, Ceviche, and much more. Shortly before moving to Maui, owners Danielle and Jeremy had switched to a plant-based diet, and the transition was hard for them. They had difficulty making their favorite meals vegan and had resorted to eating out at a vegan food truck 3-4 times a week for months. When the food truck owner decided to sell, they jumped on the chance to buy it and transformed it into what is now Earth Aloha Eats.

The menu for their food truck and three restaurants has such a wide range of tacos, burgers, and sandwiches, and many varieties of bowls and plates. Make sure to try the Asian Teriyaki Bowl with grilled vegan chicken, veggies, brown rice, and their house teriyaki sauce. They even offer vegan dishes for the keiki (kids)!
